It would seem that we just can't stop baking. Check out these two cheesy tarts and two cheesy scone recipes.
Welcome to #CookBlogShare the weekly linky for all things foodie hosted here on Recipes Made Easy the last Tuesday of the month, at Lost in Food on the 2nd Tuesday of the month and with our guests hosts on the remaining Tuesdays.
Its the place where food bloggers can share their latest posts and for you to find new food blogs.
April in a nutshell
Last month I was still taken aback at how much things had changed in the month before. This month, like so many, I've settled into the new norm.
I'm probably luckier than most as I work from home anyway, so not much change there. Mr B has to go into work but as he is the only one in the office and can walk there its pretty low risk.
I'm finding local shops now have most things most of the time, allbeit a slightly reduced choice and getting a home delivery is getting easier.
But flour is still pretty hard to come by so I was really pleased when my 16kg bag of bread flour from Northumberland which I had managed to source on the internet finally turned up. At home, I was beginning to ration bread which as a bakers daughter goes against the grain. How are you coping with supplies?
On the Recipes Made Easy, I finally got round to writing a post on How to Make Homemade Pasta. Back in the early 90's I wrote a book of 100 pasta recipes. Many using dried pasta but of course there was a section on homemade pasta.
Whenever time allows, I have been hooked on making my own ever since. I find it very satisfying and the texture of homemade pasta is very different to dry pasta and just delicious! When circumstances allow it is also a great activity to make pasta with friends which I have done on numerous occasions.
This week I have shared a really easy pasta sauce which is perfect served with homemade tagliatelle as well as dried pasta.
Over on Only Crumbs Remain I shared recently made a Chocolate passion Cake Traybake which I will add to the linky below. A confession; I had originally intended to share in time for Easter and had one version decorated with mini eggs, but I missed my own scheduled time as somehow this lockdown has not magically increased my free time, and in fact I am busier than ever at home.
I do make sure I get out at least a couple of times a week for an hour of exercise too. Cycling is my preferred exercise - I'm no runner! and cycling in Central London is actually rather pleasant (not something I could have said a couple of months ago) when there is next to no traffic on the road. That won't last and I already see the roads gradually getting busier as time goes on so I'm making the most of it while I can. Sharing the whole of Oxford street with only a handful of pedestrians a couple of buses and the odd cyclist was a bit surreal.
4 Cheesy Bakes
And of course I have also been doing some baking just for pleasure. Baking can be very therapeutic. It would seem I'm not alone and baking is still proving very popular on both my blogs and it would seem on other blogs too.
Most of the recipes linked up on #CookBlogShare last week were baking recipes. So for this roundup I have chosen four cheesy bakes, two of which take advantage of seasonal wild garlic.
But if sweet baking is more your thing Curly's Cooking Nutella Stuffed Muffins; The Baking Explorer's Lemon curd and white chocolate bread rolls ; a baking journey's Almond and pear cake and Dragon and Fairy Dust's Rhubarb pudding are all worth a special mention. And if you just fancy a wicked sweet treat then Feast Glorious Feast's Popcorn snack mix could just fit the bill.
Comte cheese tart with wild garlic and onion
First of the cheesy bakes is this Comte cheese tart from Lost In Food. A wonderful rich, cheesy dish flavoured with freshly picked wild garlic leaves and sweet caramelised onions.
Cheese Scones with Greek yogurt
Who could resist these perfect looking Cheese scones from Tin and Thyme. The yogurt makes these cheese scones really light, moist and delicious. They are quick and easy to make too.
Cheddar Broccoli Quiche
We have another cheesy tart – Cheddar and broccoli quiche from A Baking Journey. The quiche filling is so quick and easy to make – it will be ready to be baked with the pastry in less than 10 minutes!
Sourdough cheesy and wild garlic scones
I am dying to try these Sourdough scones from Lavender and Lovage. I might have to forgo the wild garlic at the moment but I'm quite convinced they will be delicious none the less.
and that brings us to the end of my cheesy round up so now for
Alison
Some lovely cheesy bakes there, just wish I could find wild garlic! I really must brave sourdough one day. Thanks for mentioning my recipe
Sylvie
Perfect round up for me - we have been stocking up on cheese like crazy and have about 10 in the fridge right now (yes, we do consider them to be essentials in this household haha)! I've been lucky enough with sourcing baking ingredients so far, so will absolutely have to give these all a go! Thanks for including my Broccoli Quiche 🙂

Glad you are doing well. I’ve managed to find eggs but flour and yeast - Nope! I thought I’d gotten lucky but realised when I got home that it was a huge bag of bread flour! NO idea how I missed that! Xx

It is a real nuisance not always being able to get what you want but I think it will help make us all more aware of our food chains which in the longterm could be a good thing. And ofcourse more important that we all stay safe. x

I am a fully paid up member of the cheese lovers club and I’ve never met a cheese I didn’t like! There’s some fabulous cheese recipes here and thank you so much for adding my sourdough cheese and wild garlic scones too! 🙂
I’ll be joining in as usual this week, and I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone else has been baking and cooking.

These cheesy bakes are making my mouth water! Such a lovely range of baking and you can't go wrong with cheese.
Jacqueline Bellefontaine
nope cheese is always good and if we can support local cheese makers at this time even bettter.

I do love a cheesy bake, especially at the moment. Must be something to do with its inherent comfort value. Despite working from home, pretty much as normal, I do seem to be doing a lot more baking. When I can get hold of the flour that is! I haven't actually run out as I always keep a stock in, but there's been the odd near miss.
Thanks for including my yoghurt cheese scones.

Those scones look delicious

What I great round up Jacqui, thank you for including our tart. I love cheese and I fancy giving those cheese and wild garlic scones a try. Also your recipe for pasta, as teaching my girls to make fresh pasta is on my list of things I'd like to do when we're all stuck at home together. Lesley x

I fear i may not get anymore wild garlic this year 🙁
Jhuls

So many delicious cheesy recipes!
I've managed quite well with getting suppliers. I've only physically been to the shops once and managed to get most things I needed. I'm very thankful for my veg box deliveries and milk man though! My in laws managed to get me some yeast which they have posted to me as they go to the post office for work anyway. So I am very excited for that to arrive!
Jacqueline Bellefontaine
Glad you getting supplies ok. I still have to go the shops as on line deliveries are hard to come by but they are not big stores so tend not to be busy and easy to social distance in. I still have supply of yeast as for bread I make sourdough

It's astonishing how much life has changed in just a few short weeks, isn't it? We have kind of settled into our new normal now though. And actually there are some aspects I am really enjoying - like all the extra time I am getting to spend with my family. Though still struggling a bit with juggling schoolwork and 2 of us working full time! It's really great how people are using this time for lots of baking too 😀 Eb x

oh yes i love that everyone is cooking I hope that continues and im really enjoying less noise and less pollution from traffic in London. wish that could stay the same. I have a feeling new norm will be here to stay for a bit so best to make the most of the best bits and not get the other things get on top of us.
